Somalia’s international partners have welcomed the resumption of elections talks in Mogadishu.
The talks between Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and Federal Member States (FMS) have been going on in the nation’s capital since last week.
Leaders organized the talks after two regional leaders, Ahmed Islam Madobe of Jubbaland and Said Abdullahi Deni of Puntland, skipped last month’s Dhusamareb III talks.
While commending federal and regional leaders for resuming the talks, the international community urged them to “engage fully in serious dialogue.”
Further, the partners encouraged Somalia’s leaders to “reach a broad agreement on credible electoral model” that the National Independent Electoral Commission (NIEC) can implement.
The international community issued a signed press release dated September 14 hailing the move by the country’s leaders to agree on electoral model and elections timeline.
