International Partners Commend Somalia for Electing Lower House Leadership

Somalia’s international partners have welcomed the election of the new leadership of the House of the People (Lower House).

The partners issued a joint press statement dated April 28.

Their statement comes in the wake of the election of Sheikh Adan Madobe as the Speaker of the Lower House.

Madobe was elected the Lower House Speaker on Wednesday, April 28.

Later, the Lower House also elected Sa’diya Yasin Haji Samatar as the First Deputy Speaker and Abdullahi Omar Abshirow as the Second Deputy Speaker.

Yasin is the first Somali female to be elected the Deputy Speaker in the history of the country’s Lower House.

The international partners commended Somalia for concluding this important step.

The leadership of the Lower House and Senate (Upper House) is now in place.

Consequently, the country’s legislators are expected to elect the new president in the next few days.

The partners called for a peaceful, prompt, and credible election of the President.
