International partners have raised concern over Somalia’s inability to achieve the much-touted 30 percent quota for women representation in parliament.
On February 18, the partners released a joint statement addressing this issue.
Thus far, Somalia has only managed to achieve 22 percent quota.
With only one week left to conduct elections for the remaining House of the People (Lower House) seats, there are fears that Somalia will not get to 30 percent quota.
Consequently, the international partners called upon the stakeholders to apply “urgent corrective measures” for the remaining seats.
Somalia’s parliamentary elections are set for conclusion on February 25.
