International Partners Concerned by Lack of Dialogue between Somaliland Leaders

International partners have raised their concern over the lack of dialogue between leaders in Somaliland.

They expressed their concerns in a statement dated Wednesday, November 9.

Those who signed the statement included Japan, the United States, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands, Italy, and Ireland.

Others included Germany, France, Finland, European Union, Canada, and Belgium.

They issued the statement a few moments after speaking with President Muse Bihi Abdi of Somaliland on phone.

In their statement, the partners raised the issue of the lack of dialogue between key political stakeholders in Somaliland.

The breakaway region had recently postponed the presidential elections to next year.

The polls were to take place on November 13, 2022.

They urged political leaders in Somaliland to secure consensus on the electoral roadmap. They also stressed the importance of non-violent politicking and freedom of expression.
