International Partners Urge Somali Leaders to Address Elections Concerns

Somalia’s international partners have urged the country’s leadership to address concerns raised over the forthcoming elections.

On August 26, representatives of the international community issued a press release lauding the elections that have taken place in various regional states in Somalia.

Thus far, only HirShabelle is yet to conduct elections for its Upper House seats.

Galmudug, Puntland, Jubaland, and Southwest have held their polls.

Nevertheless, some stakeholders feel that the country isn’t doing everything possible to make the elections as transparent as possible.

Opposition politicians, meeting under the Council of Presidential Candidates, voiced their concerns with the power that regional state leaders hold.

The candidates raised these concerns after the recent National Consultative Forum.

The forum took place in Mogadishu.

It attracted participants representing the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and Federal Member States (FMS).
