International Partners Urge Somalia to Hold Dhusamareb Talks

Somalia’s international partners have urged the Federal Government of Somalia to continue with Dhusamareb talks as scheduled.

The partners, who include United Nations in Somalia (UNSOM), said the meeting between federal government and regional governments in Dhusamareb must proceed.

Dhusamareb talks are essential for agreeing on the electoral timelines and the best model for the country to use in the upcoming elections.

The international partners also urged all the leaders who were at the previous rounds of the talks to show up in the next rounds too.

In addition to UNSOM, other members who urged Somalia to embrace the talks include Belgium, African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), and the European Union.

Others were the United Kingdom, the United States, Switzerland, Norway, Sweden, Ireland, Italy, Kenya, and Japan.

Netherlands, Germany, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), France, Denmark and Ethiopia all added their voices to the calls for peaceful and progressive talks.
