International partners issued a joint statement on Thursday, November 19 urging Somalis to embrace consensus as a means for solving the ongoing electoral crisis.
The East African nation is scheduled to hold local and parliamentary elections in December 2020.
Presidential elections are then to follow in February 2021.
However, the country seems to be on the verge of a prolonged electoral misunderstanding especially among politicians.
The partners, including United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) signed the statement.
They stressed the importance of resolving differences specifically to enable the election of Members of Parliament in Gedo Region to proceed smoothly.
The allocation of seats for Somaliland MPs has also proved to be a contentious issue.
Somalia’s international partners urged the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) to resolve this issue with Somaliland.
