IOM Promises to Support Stranded Somalis to Return Home

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Somalia has promised to help Somalis stranded in various countries around the world to return home.

IOM Somalia made this announcement while releasing its monthly report for August 2020.

In the report, the organization mentioned the hundreds of Somalis it helped to return to the country after months of being stranded abroad because of COVID-19.

Most nations around the world banned international flights thus leaving millions of passengers stranded far away from their homes.

In Somalia, the government also banned international flights to curb the spread of COVID-19.

However, in early August, the government announced plans to lift the ban on international flights thus allowing many Somalis to travel back home.

Several international airlines are scheduled to resume flights to Mogadishu this September.

IOM has promised to work closely with the government, Somali nationals stranded abroad, and international airlines to accomplish this mission.
