Somalia has received COVID-19 ventilators from the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
The ventilators are for treating the thousands of patients diagnosed with the novel Coronavirus in the country.
The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) through funding from the Somalia Humanitarian Fund (SHF) donated the ventilators, which are critical for the treatment of the disease.
Health officials announced that the ventilators are for the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) being set up at De Martini Hospital.
Somalia’s Ministry of Health has designated De Martini Hospital as the only health facility in the country for treating COVID-19 cases.
With the donation, the Horn of Africa nation has now improved its capacity for testing and treating COVID-19 patients.
Currently, the country has recorded more than 1,976 COVID-19 cases out of which 80 have succumbed to the virulent disease.
