A large fleet of Iranian-owned fishing vessels has been operating in Somalia’s Exclusive Economic Zone illegally.
The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) revealed this news earlier today through a press release.
Government officials say they were able to confirm the troubling news with the help of automatic identification system analysis.
According to the analysis, the vessels appear to have not only originated from Iran but also use Iranian ports.
The government said it has identified 112 Iranian vessels operating in the country’s exclusive economic zone illegally from January 2019 to April 14, 2020.
