ISIS militants captured a strategic town in Puntland on the night of Wednesday, August 18.
The move is likely to create plenty of concern in Mogadishu, especially within the higher echelons of the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS).
The government, through Somali National Army (SNA) and other security agencies, has been keen to make the country safe, more so as elections take part in various parts.
Reports from the region indicate that ISIS extremists captured Balidhidin, a key town in Puntland.
Analysts believe that yesterday’s event is the culmination of the growing presence of ISIS in this regional state.
ISIS militants mostly take refuge in the Golis mountains.
Security forces confirmed that the militants killed Ahmed Mohamed, a local District Commissioner during the raid.
