Jama Says Current Climate Finance Projects in Somalia are Inadequate

Deputy Prime Minister Salah Jama says that the current climate finance projects in Somalia are inadequate.

The Deputy Prime Minister said this while addressing the ongoing United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP28).

According to Jama, Somalia only receives around $300 million per year for climate change programs around the country.

However, he says that the amount remains insufficient.

In his address, the Deputy Prime Minister stated that much of the funding is responsive rather than preventive thus putting Somalia at a great disadvantage.

Deputy Prime Minister Jama called upon multilateral development banks to place more emphasis on identifying meaningful ways of averting climate impact.
