Journalist Rearrested in Mogadishu Just Before Traveling to Nairobi for Medical Treatment

Police have rearrested a Somali journalist who had just been released from their custody.

Reports from Mogadishu indicate that authorities rearrested journalist Abdalle Ahmed Mumin at Aden Adde International Airport.

At the time of being rearrested, Mumin had been about to board a plane to Nairobi.

He was to travel to the Kenyan capital for medical attention.

Mumin had been in detention since October 11 when National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) officers arrested him in Mogadishu.

He was then taken before the court on Sunday.

Mumin was then released following pressure from different quarters, including some of Somalia’s international partners such as the United States.

The journalist had complained of “severe kidney pain.”

He has threatened to go on a hunger strike if authorities continue to keep him in detention illegally.
