Jubbaland and Puntland have both hit out at the Lower House for extending President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo’s term in office by two years.
On April 12, the Lower House voted overwhelmingly to extend Farmaajo’s term, which expired on February 8, 2020 by two additional years.
Later in the day, Jubbaland and Puntland issued a statement condemning the move.
According to Jubbaland, the move by the House of Representatives is a “setback for the country.”
On its part, Puntland promised to share its detailed opinion on the matter with the people of Somalia soon.
The move by the Lower House has jeopardized the electoral talks between the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and Federal Member States (FMS).
