Jubbaland Concerned over Rising Insecurity as ATMIS Withdrawal Looms

The regional state of Jubbaland has raised concern over rising insecurity as the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) withdrawal draws ever so near.

ATMIS is scheduled to pull all its troops out of Somalia by December 31, 2024.

Gen. Yusuf Hussein Osman Dhumal said that the region has been witnessing a sharp rise in cases of insecurity.

Gen. Dhumal is the Minister of Security in the local Jubbaland administration.

He spoke while touring several areas in Gedo over the weekend.

According to Gen. Dhumal, adequate security forces need to be in place in Jubbaland to take over from ATMIS.

He called for more support from local residents and the federal government in this regard.
