Jubbaland Lawmakers Accuse Federal Government of Undermining Regional Stability

Kismayo, Jubbaland – Somali federal legislators from Jubbaland have issued a stern warning to President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s administration, accusing it of systematically undermining the federal system and destabilizing their region through years of political interference.

In a strongly worded joint statement, the MPs claimed that federal meddling in Jubbaland’s internal affairs has persisted since 2013, contributing to violence, displacement and governance disruptions. They warned that continued interference could fracture the region’s fragile stability and threaten national cohesion.

According to the lawmakers, the alleged federal actions risk dismantling the Jubbaland administration, fostering the rise of rival parallel authorities and fueling fresh clan-based confrontations. They further accused the central government of diverting political energy and public resources toward internal disputes rather than strengthening the national campaign against terrorism.

The MPs urged Somalia’s leadership to abandon confrontational tactics and instead embrace dialogue as a pathway to unity and long-term stability.

“The country’s security cannot be safeguarded through coercion or division. Only cooperation between federal and regional institutions can ensure lasting peace,” the statement read.

As of publication, neither Villa Somalia nor the Office of the Prime Minister had issued a response to the accusations. The dispute adds to simmering tensions between Mogadishu and several federal member states, raising fresh concerns over political cohesion at a critical juncture in Somalia’s state-building process.
