Mogadishu, Somalia – The Justice and Solidarity Party (JSP) was officially launched in Mogadishu, marking a significant political development as the country gears up for the 2026 presidential elections. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud was elected as the leader of the newly formed party and formally declared as its presidential candidate.
The JSP brings together prominent figures from across Somalia’s political landscape and is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the nation’s future. The party’s leadership structure includes four deputy leaders, reflecting a broad coalition of political experience and regional representation.
The deputy leaders are Abdiaziz Hassan Laftagareen, the current leader of Southwest State; Sadia Yasin Samatar, the Deputy Speaker of the House of the People; Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre; and Deputy Prime Minister Salah Ahmed Jama.
In his acceptance speech, President Mohamud emphasized the party’s commitment to justice, unity, and inclusive governance. He also highlighted the need for institutional reform, national reconciliation, and the continuation of Somalia’s federalization process.
Political analysts say the formation of JSP signals an early start to the 2026 campaign season and a potential consolidation of support behind President Mohamud’s leadership. The party’s diverse leadership is seen as a strategic move to strengthen its national appeal.
The Justice and Solidarity Party now enters Somalia’s complex political arena with the aim of building a broad-based platform focused on reform, peacebuilding, and national progress.
