Kenya Apologizes to Somalia over Presence of Somaliland’s Flag at Diplomatic Event in Nairobi

Kenya has apologized to Somalia about the presence of the flag of the breakaway nation of Somaliland at a diplomatic event in Nairobi.

Somalia’s Ambassador to Kenya, Mohamed Nur Tarsan, stormed out of the Annual Diplomatic Function in Nairobi.

Ambassador Tarsan was unhappy with the presence of the Somaliland flag.

He also took issue with the recognition of Somaliland’s Envoy to Kenya, Mohamed Ahmad Barawaani, as a full ambassador.

Kenya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded to the issue through a diplomatic letter.

In its letter, the foreign affairs ministry acknowledged receiving a Note Verbal from the Somali Embassy in Nairobi over the matter.

Further, Kenya also said that it “deeply regrets” any inconvenience or embarrassment that the entire situation caused.

The diplomatic event and the incident that followed took place on Tuesday, June 14.
