Kenya Receives $17 Million for ATMIS Role

Kenya has been paid $17 million for its role in the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).

Aden Duale, the Kenyan Cabinet Secretary for Defense, confirmed this to parliament recently.

Duale said that Kenya had been paid that amount for its role in securing and stabilizing Somalia over the last five years.

He added that the Treasury received the money in tranches of $3.3 million per year.

Kenya’s presence in Somalia will cease next year as ATMIS is scheduled to pull out of the nation by the end of December 2024.
