Kenya is to resume the export of miraa (khat) to Somalia in the next two weeks.
Peter Munya, the Minister of Agriculture in the Kenyan government, announced this on Friday, June 10.
His comments come in the wake of the visit by President Uhuru Kenyatta to Somalia on June 9.
President Kenyatta had traveled to Mogadishu to attend the inauguration ceremony of the new Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
The Kenyan President held talks with his Somalia counterpart on wide-ranging issues.
The ban Somali placed on importing khat from Kenya featured prominently in their discussions.
Under the immediate former President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo, Somalia’s government banned the importation of khat from Kenya two years ago.
