The government of Kenya has welcomed the report by Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) on its dispute with Somalia.
On January 27, IGAD’s fact-finding mission to both Somalia and Kenya issued a report after visiting the two neighboring nations on January 9 and 13.
In Nairobi, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs called the IGAD report “impartially and professionally written.”
Kenyan authorities also noted that the report exonerates it from the frequent accusations by Mogadishu of interfering in Somalia’s internal affairs.
While welcoming the report, Kenya indicated that it would not be drawn into “non-existent issues designed to worsen its ties with the neighboring nations.”
President Ismail Guelleh of Djibouti had appointed members of the fact-finding mission.
He appointed it in December 2020 after Somalia submitted a letter of protest to IGAD complaining about Kenya’s involvement in its domestic affairs.
In its statement, Kenya’s foreign affairs ministry said that Somalia had “simulated a crisis that is against IGAD’s vision of achieving peace, prosperity and regional cooperation.”
