Kenyan Miraa Traders Waiting for Somalia Export Permits

Miraa traders from Kenya are still waiting for permits to start exporting their produce to Somalia.

At the time of going to press, the traders were scheduled to receive the export permits on Friday, July 22.

The Kenyan traders should have resumed exporting miraa to Somalia from July 5.

However, they first had to wait for the export certificates, which are only given to traders who comply with the new regulations.

Thus far, the Miraa Pyrethrum and Other Industrial Crops office has received applications from 20 Kenyans interested in exporting the produce to Somalia.

Somalia banned miraa from Kenya two years ago.

Kenya announced a resumption of miraa exports to Somalia earlier this month when President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and President Uhuru Kenyatta met in Nairobi, Kenya.
