Kenyan Senator Calls for Legitimization of Trade with Somalia to Reduce Deaths

Senator Ledama Ole Kina has called for the legitimization of trade between Kenya and Somalia to reduce deaths.

On Tuesday, Senator Ledama stated that the two nations must improve their trade relations.

He added that Kiunga, Liboi, Dif, El Wak, and Mandera borders have to be reopened to legitimize trade to reduce contraband.

The growth of contraband goods has caused the deaths of many people along the border between Kenya and Somalia.

His comments come in the wake of the recent visit to Somalia by Aden Duale, the Kenyan Minister of Defense.

During the December 29 visit, Duale held talks with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre.

They discussed improved trade and security between the two neighboring nations.
