Kenya’s Foreign Affairs Minister Makes Maiden Visit to Somalia

Raychelle Omamo, Kenya’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, is expected to travel to Somalia for her maiden visit to the neighboring country on August 8.

Reports from Nairobi indicate that Omamo will be traveling to Mogadishu on Sunday.

Her visit offers the latest proof that the two neighboring countries in the Horn of Africa region have probably mended their differences.

Somalia and Kenya have been at loggerheads for several years now.

First, Somalia accuses Kenya of internal interference, especially in Jubaland. Secondly, Somalia took Kenya to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over a maritime dispute between the two nations.

During her time in Mogadishu, Omamo is scheduled to hold meetings with top officials of the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS).

Her itinerary includes a meeting with Mohamed Abdirizak, who is Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Additionally, Omamo would be meeting with Mohamed Hussein Roble, the Somalia Prime Minister.

Afterward, she will deliver a message from Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta to the Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo.
