Khaire’s Staunch Allies Removed from Somalia’s New Cabinet

The new-look cabinet appointed by Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble has no staunch allies of the immediate former Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire.

In late July 2020, the House of Representatives passed a vote of no confidence on Hassan Ali Khaire thus forcing him out of office.

President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo blessed the move to remove him out of office.

According to insiders, Khaire had grown increasingly influential in the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS).

Consequently, Farmaajo orchestrated the move kick him out of office.

However, measures to curb his growing influence did not end with his removal from office.

This week, Roble announced a new cabinet comprising veteran ministers and first-timers.

Interestingly, those known to have been in Khaire’s corner were all shown the door. These included Mohamed Abukar Islow, the Minister of Internal Security.

Others were Abdi Mohamed Sabriye and Eng. Abdi Anshur Hassan, the Minister of Interior and Federalism and Minister of Defense respectively.

Deputy Minister of Information, Adan Issack Ali, and the Deputy Minister of Ports and Maritime Transport, Osman Abdi Daallo, were all sacked for their closeness with Khaire.
