Somaliland’s Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs has launched a project to support thousands of families around the country.
According to the ministry, the project is designed to support vulnerable 32,000 families with the help of World Bank, which will be providing all the funds.
The project, dubbed “Safety Net for Human Capital”, is expected to be implemented in the next 12 months.
It will mostly benefit families in areas such as Gebiley, Selal, Sarar, and Haysimo, which have a larger percentage of the most vulnerable families.
Somaliland authorities have clarified that the labor and social affairs ministry would take charge of implementing the project independently beyond 2020.
Abdirashid Ibrahim, the Director General in the labor and social affairs ministry, expressed optimism at the project’s success and impact in the country.
Hassan Gafadhi, the Minister of National Planning and Development, stated that the project would not only focus on feeding vulnerable families but also teach them to be independent.
Ms. Hinda Gani, Somaliland’s Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, indicated that the project would focus more on residents hit hard by effects of the recent drought in the country.
