On Thursday, the President of Somalia’s Southwest State, Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed Laftagareen, inaugurated the Voter Registration Campaign in Baidoa, marking a significant step toward the upcoming local elections.
The event, which attracted a large crowd, was held in Baidoa’s central square, where Laftagareen became the first citizen to register for the elections, setting an example for the community.
The campaign aims to ensure the active participation of residents in the forthcoming local elections, a critical component in the nation’s ongoing political and electoral reforms.
President Laftagareen, in his speech, urged the citizens to take part in the voter registration process and emphasized the importance of civic engagement in shaping the future of the region.
The launch ceremony saw the presence of key local council dignitaries, representatives from the National Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (NIEBC) of Somalia, and hundreds of residents of Baidoa, who showed their enthusiasm and commitment to the democratic process.
The event is seen as a vital step in the broader effort to enhance Somalia’s democratic processes, ensuring that citizens have a direct role in electing local leaders.
As the registration process continues, authorities are encouraging all eligible voters to participate, with efforts underway to ensure that the process is accessible and transparent.
