President Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed Laftagareen of Southwest State is set to mediate between President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo and two regional leaders.
Laftagareen said that he would engage Farmaajo, President Said Abdullahi Deni of Puntland, and President Ahmed Islam Madobe of Jubbaland.
Farmaajo, Deni, and Madobe are unable to see eye to eye on the elections.
Their respective Federal Member States (FMS) will not take part in the elections that are set to kick off soon.
On January 9, Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble announced that elections would be taking place in Galmudug, HirShabelle, Southwest, and Benadir states.
According the Prime Minister, elections would not be taking place in either Jubbaland or Puntland.
On January 10, leaders from Galmudug, HirShabelle, Southwest, and Benadir met with opposition presidential candidates.
During the meeting, Laftagareen volunteered to engage both Deni and Madobe.
As he meets them, Laftagareen would be presenting to the two leaders the offer from Farmaajo’s side.
Nevertheless, Laftagareen never indicated the date or day when he expects to hold the first meeting with the regional leaders.
