Leading Human Rights Journalist’s Court Case Kicks off in Mogadishu

A court in Mogadishu has started hearing a case involving a leading human rights journalist.

The Mogadishu court started hearing the case of Abdalle Mumin, who had also been the chairperson of the Somali Journalists Syndicate (SJS) at the time of his arrest.

Authorities arrested Mumin on October 11, 2022, at the Aden Adde International Airport.

A few days later, they released him on bail following widespread condemnation of the detention by local and foreign observers alike.

Currently, Mumin is out on bail.

However, the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has imposed travel restrictions on him. They have also restricted his right to freedom of expression.
