Let’s Do More to Stop Violence Against Women, Says AMISOM

The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) has called for increased efforts to stop violence against women.

AMISOM made this call on November 26 while marking 16 Days of Activism.

The 16 Days of Activism is an annual call for more work to curb Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

AMISOM issued a statement on the first of the 16 Days, which is November 25.

Ambassador Francisco Madeira, the Head of AMISOM, said in the organization’s statement that “everyone has a role to play to create a future devoid of GBV.”

He said that AMISOM remains committed to the protection of girls and women.

Further, the AMISOM statement stated that the fight against GBV must be prioritized.

AMISOM commended the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) for the progress made in safeguarding the rights of girls and women.

Nevertheless, the organization is cognizant of the threat that GBV poses to the health and safety of girls and women.
