Lower and Upper Houses to Hold Joint Session on Elections Agreement

The House of Representatives is scheduled to hold a joint parliamentary session with the Senate to debate the recently signed elections agreement.

According to sources, the session is to take place on Saturday September 26.

Earlier, President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo promised to table any deal agreed between Federal Government of Somalia and Federal Member States to the Lower House for approval.

However, he had yet to present the first deal signed in Dhusamareb III to the Lower House.

Primarily, that was because of the absence of two crucial regional leaders at Dhusamareb III – President Said Abdullahi Deni and President Ahmed Islam Madobe of Puntland and Jubbaland respectively.

Now that all leaders attended the National Consultation Conference in Mogadishu a week ago and agreed on the deal, Farmaajo has kept his word to the House of Representatives.

The session is likely to be lively especially since the Lower House has traditionally backed Farmaajo as the Upper House throws its weight behind the regional governments.
