The Speaker of the House of the People (Lower House) has declared legislators elected in El-Wak as the bona fide representatives of the Gedo region.
Speaker Sheikh Aden Madobe declared this on Sunday, May 8.
Two sets of Lower House legislators were elected to represent Gedo in elections held last month.
The first batch was elected in El-Wak while the second emerged victorious in elections carried out in Garbaharey.
Initially, the polls were to take place in Garbaharey.
However, the Federal Elections Implementation Team (FEIT) moved the polls to El-Wak citing insecurity in Garbaharey.
Nevertheless, a faction within FEIT proceeded with the Garbaharey polls.
Speaker Madobe has now put this matter to rest thus paving the way open for the 16 Members of Parliament (MPs) elected in El-Wak to participate in the upcoming presidential polls.
