President Ahmed Islam Madobe of Jubbaland has accused Villa Somalia of arming Al-Shabaab in the region.
Madobe made these utterances on January 2, 2021.
He said that President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo and the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) have been arming the militants in the semiautonomous region.
Jubbaland’s regional forces have been engaged in intense fighting with Al-Shabaab and FGS troops in the region.
Specifically, they have clashed several times in Gedo region.
The prevailing situation in the region has forced Madobe to threaten not to allow elections to proceed in Jubbaland.
Madobe’s latest accusation regarding the government’s arming of the Al-Qaeda linked group is likely to deepen the differences between Kismayo and Mogadishu.
The Jubbaland leader said that Al-Shabaab militants used highly advanced weapons when fighting his troops.
He said that the weapons belonged to Somali National Army (SNA) thus proving his assertions that the government arms Al-Shabaab.
