President Ahmed Madobe of Somalia’s semiautonomous region of Jubbaland has reconciled with President Mohamed Farmaajo of the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) ahead of the key talks taking place in Dhusamareb.
The Dhusamareb talks are between President Farmaajo, Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire and the five regional leaders.
Madobe and Farmaajo have been at loggerheads for the past two years since the former’s election as the new President of Jubbaland. He accused Farmaajo of supporting his opponent during the last elections.
The unprecedented reconciliatory session between the two fierce rivals took place at the Presidential Palace in Galmudug at the instigation of President Ahmed Abdi Kariye Qoorqoor. Their meeting lasted several hours.
According to several sources, the meeting was necessary in ensuring that any subsequent talks between the two leaders “become easier.” The sources also indicated that their differences are not too complicated.
