Madobe Calls Partial Somali Elections a Sign of Dictatorship

President Ahmed Islam Madobe of Jubbaland has called the decision by the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) to hold partial elections a sign of dictatorship.

Madobe was commenting on the announcement on January 9, 2021 by Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble that elections would be held in only three states and Benadir region.

According to Roble, there would be no elections in either Jubbaland or Puntland.

Galmudug, Southwest, HirShabelle, and Benadir regions have been cleared to hold elections, as per Prime Minister Roble’s announcement on Saturday.

On Sunday, Madobe criticized the holding of partial elections in the country.

He held a press conference on Sunday saying that Somalia previously collapsed because of dictatorship.

Madobe said that dictatorship should not be entertained in the modern Somalia.

He urged Prime Minister Roble and President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo to reconsider their decision on partial elections.
