President Ahmed Islam Madobe has reminded his fellow leaders in Somalia of the importance of embracing dialogue.
Madobe told the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and Federal Member States (FMS) that dialogue is the only realistic solution to the elections impasse bedeviling the country.
Somalia has been unable to hold timely elections as scheduled.
It was scheduled to hold parliamentary elections in December 2020 but these were postponed to January 2021.
Reasons for delays in holding elections are quite varied.
On January 20, Madobe spoke about the need for dialogue yet again. He has been at the forefront in leading the calls for dialogue.
During the Wednesday meeting with James Swan, United Nations Special Envoy to Somalia, Madobe asked him to convene a meeting to discuss and find solutions to the impasse fast.
He mentioned to Special Envoy Swan of the importance of convening the meeting “before it is too late.”
President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo’s term expires in the next 18 days.
However, it is not clear whether the country has made all the necessary plans for holding presidential elections.
