Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi has called upon the business community in Somalia to cease importing single-use plastic bags.
Makhzoumi, the federal Minister of Environment and Climate Change, made the call when she held a meeting with representatives of the business community.
Her meeting with the business community representatives took place in Mogadishu on Tuesday.
During the meeting and the subsequent discussions, Makhzoumi urged them to not only stop but also reduce the importation and use of these types of bags.
She reminded them of the adverse effects of the bags on the environment and wildlife.
