Authorities have arrested a man in Lower Shabelle on suspicion of raping and killing an 8-year old girl.
Officers from the Somali Police Force (SPF) in the region arrested the suspect on January 28.
The 25-year old suspect was identified as Bashir Mohamed Kassim.
According to Sadiq Adan, a spokesperson for the SPF, Kassim raped and murdered the girl in an Internal Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Lower Shabelle.
Adan confirmed that Kassim has been transferred to Mogadishu for further interrogation over the matter.
“Kassim is now in the hands of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Mogadishu,” Adan confirmed.
