Omar Finnish, the Mayor of Mogadishu, expressed his confidence about the ongoing conference in Dhusamareb.
Leaders representing the Federal Government of Somalia and Federal Member States are in Galmudug’s capital of Dhusamareb to find solutions for the upcoming elections.
Somalia is due to hold elections in November 2020 and February 2021.
However, there are concerns about the electoral model that the country would use. For a long time, the talk has been on holding it using the one-person-one-vote model.
The National Independent Electoral Commission (NIEC) believes that it is impossible for the country to hold timely elections using such a model.
Consequently, NIEC has called for the postponement of elections.
The five FMS leaders opted to meet in Dhusamareb to find a solution for this dilemma, a process that Mayor Finnish believes would benefit all Somalis in the country.
Mayor Finnish is in Dhusamareb to join his fellow leaders and represent the interests of the Benadir region, where Mogadishu is located.
