A Minneapolis man, Abdisatar Ahmed Hassan, has been charged with attempting to provide material support to ISIS, a designated foreign terrorist organization.
The charges were filed in U.S. District Court on Thursday.
According to the criminal complaint, Hassan made two unsuccessful attempts to travel from Minnesota to Somalia to join ISIS.
He allegedly claimed to be visiting family in Somalia, despite having no relatives there.
This case highlights ongoing efforts by U.S. authorities to combat terrorism and prevent individuals from providing support to extremist groups.
