Somalia’s Auditor General has accused Mogadishu administration of failing to provide evidence of expenditures worth more than $1.7 million.
Mohamed Ali, the Auditor General, said that the Benadir Regional Authority (BRA) spent the money during the 2019 financial year.
Auditor General Ali urged the authority to provide supporting documents of this amount.
On Thursday, December 10, he released the latest report listing all the expenses and payments made by the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and regional government.
He said that the unaccounted expenses were mostly reported in road construction, rent, youth training, and social activities.
Ali said that the administration failed to provide proof that it bought new vehicles too.
Furthermore, his report shows that most of the unaccounted for expenses took place between October and December 2019.
