Several candidates in the recent HirShabelle elections won after receiving huge backing from the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS).
Currently, Somalia is on an electioneering period.
HirShabelle is among the first semiautonomous states in the country to hold its elections.
Other Federal Member States are expected to hold theirs in the next few weeks as Somalia’s local and parliamentary elections take place in November 2020.
Abdihakim Luman won his election as the Speaker of the HirShabelle Regional Parliament. He received the backing of Mogadishu.
Another candidate who emerged victorious with the assistance of Mogadishu is Mahad Hassan Osman. He was elected the Second Deputy Speaker the HirShabelle Regional Parliament.
Osman is closely related to Fahad Yasin, the Director of National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA). Yasin is one of Farmaajo’s closest confidants.
