All security checkpoints in Somalia are manned by police officers and their bomb detection dogs.
Abdifitah Adan Hassan, the spokesperson of the Somali Police Force (SPF) confirmed this in a media interview on Sunday.
Hassan said that the dogs would help police officers to provide security more effectively.
He added that the combination of police and bomb detection dogs would ensure that the transportation of explosives around Mogadishu ceases.
“The well-trained dogs sniff explosives properly and offer an additional layer of security,” he said.
“Our goal is to ensure that this becomes the norm from this year before we scale it up all over the country from 2025,” said the police spokesperson.
