A Mogadishu court has sentenced a man to 15 years in prison for being a member of the Islamic State (IS).
The court found Abdullahi Hashi Ahmed guilty of IS membership.
Reports show that the court sentenced Ahmed on Sunday, July 17.
According to reports, the court discovered that Ahmed had been a member of Al-Shabaab before leaving to join the IS.
In May this year, Ahmed targeted police with an improvised explosive device (IED).
However, his lawyer pleaded with the court to be lenient and set Ahmed free. The lawyer claimed that Ahmed was not a member of IS and had left Al-Shabaab much earlier.
