Mogadishu Police Chief Says Nobody is Banned from Wearing Facemasks

Mogadishu police chief has termed as “untrue” reports indicating that regional authorities have banned the wearing of facemasks.

Mahdi Omar Mu’min, the Mogadishu police boss, said this during a recent address.

“Reports that the government banned people from wearing turbans, facemasks, face veils, and hats are nothing but malicious,” said Mu’min.

Rumors of this nature have been quite rampant in the region in the last few weeks.

Allegedly, authorities imposed the ban as a way of enhancing security in Mogadishu and the surrounding areas.

The reports emanated from the recent practices by police officers.

Lately, it’s normal to see security officers stopping vehicles on the capital’s streets and asking passengers to remove their face veils, facemasks, turbans, and hats.

Passengers on auto-rickshaws have not been spared in the apparent crackdown.
