Mogadishu Police Commander has suspended the House of Representatives (Lower House) from reconvening.
The Lower House was to reconvene on April 12.
However, Brig. Gen. Sadiq Omar John went on air to announce that he would not allow parliament to resume its sitting.
Instead, he appealed to Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble to take over the responsibility of running the country.
Brig. Gen. Sadiq urged Roble to “send the disputing sides back to the tent” to discuss the months-long electoral impasse.
Sadiq said that the country’s leadership must reach “consensus on elections.”
While addressing the Prime Minister, Sadiq said, “You must start dictating rather than sit around and wait to be dictated to.”
Brig. Gen. Sadiq said this during an address aired on Universal TV.
In his address, the police commander said that his decision to suspend parliament from sitting was informed by the need to “avoid violence.”
Sadiq told Universal TV that he would not sit around and watch as parliamentarians engaged in power grab activities.
Immediately after his address, Gen. Abdi Hassan Mohamud Hijar announced that he had fired Brig. Gen. Sadiq with immediate effect.
Gen. Hijar accused Brig. Gen. Sadiq of “unethical behavior.”
