Mogadishu, Somalia – The Ambassador of Somalia to the United States, Dahir Hassan, has announced that Mogadishu will host the inaugural U.S.–Somalia Presidential Trade Forum, a milestone initiative aimed at strengthening economic ties between the two nations.
Amb. Hassan, speaking from Washington, said he was “honored” to make the announcement, noting that the forum reflects Somalia’s growing readiness to position itself as a hub for trade and investment in the Horn of Africa.
“With a stronger U.S.–Somali security partnership in place, we are now moving towards opening markets, attracting capital, and building prosperity for our people,” Hassan said.
The high-level forum will bring together Somali and U.S. government officials, investors, and private sector leaders. Its agenda will highlight investment opportunities in Somalia’s infrastructure, agriculture, energy, fisheries, and technology sectors, while also providing a platform to discuss regulatory reforms and trade facilitation.
Somali officials have welcomed the announcement, calling it a pivotal moment for the country’s re-engagement with international markets. Analysts say the forum could serve as a catalyst for attracting long-term capital flows and partnerships, helping to create jobs and accelerate economic recovery.
The United States is already one of Somalia’s most significant partners in security and governance reforms. With the launch of this trade platform, the bilateral relationship is expanding into the economic arena, signaling confidence in Somalia’s stabilization efforts.
The Presidential Trade Forum is expected to be convened in Mogadishu later this year, with dates to be confirmed.
