More Protests in Beletweyne as Government Deploys Troops to the Region

More protests were recorded in Beletweyne, the administrative capital of HirShabelle State, over the newly elected administration.

The protests emerged as the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) issued a warrant of arrest against Abukar Haji Warsame, the leader of a faction leader.

The deployment of troops from the federal and local governments has created plenty of tension in the region.

According to sources, the protests broke out on Saturday, November 28.

It is now two weeks since Hiiraan Rescue Council, a faction headed by Warsame, emerged in the region to protest Ali Guudlaawe’s recent electoral victory as the President of HirShabelle.

Hundreds of local residents took to the streets to protest the decision by the government to order Warsame’s arrest and deploy troops in the region.
