The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has evacuated more than 140 Somali nations who have been stranded in Saudi Arabia for months.
Most of the people evacuated were Somali women and children and the plane carrying them landed at the Aden Adde International Airport on Thursday.
Government officials announced that the evacuees had been stranded in Saudi Arabia cities of Riyadh and Jeddah because of COVID-19.
As of today, the government has evacuated over 1,516 Somali nationals from various parts of the world since the onset of COVID-19.
Furthermore, the government has promised to continue doing so despite the fragile health system in the country.
Somalia has struggled to contain COVID-19 with the country recording close to 3,000 cases, which include 90 deaths.
