Mogadishu, Somalia – Reports indicate that a mortar attack occurred early Tuesday morning in neighborhoods surrounding Mogadishu’s Aden Adde International Airport and the adjacent Halane compound, a high-security zone that hosts numerous international diplomatic missions and personnel.
Eyewitnesses in the area reported hearing several loud explosions around dawn, sparking panic among residents.
The Halane compound, located near the airport, is one of the most fortified areas in the Somali capital and is home to United Nations offices, African Union personnel, and various Western embassies and aid agencies.
As of Tuesday morning, Somali authorities had not released any official statement detailing the number of projectiles fired, the exact impact locations, or whether there were any casualties or injuries as a result of the attack.
Security forces have reportedly cordoned off parts of the area as they assess the situation and investigate the source of the shelling.
No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
However, the extremist group Al-Shabaab has a known history of launching similar mortar strikes targeting high-profile government and international installations in Mogadishu.
This latest incident comes amid heightened security concerns in the capital following a series of recent attacks that have targeted civilians, security forces, and infrastructure.
More information will be provided as authorities release official updates.
